Pechora 2M

Modernization of the S-125 Pechora anti-aircraft missile complex (export designation PLRK S-125 Neva) used for air defense of important military and administrative facilities against strikes by aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles.
The modernization of this system, produced since 1960, allows for an overall improvement of the parameters necessary to combat current means of air attack, in particular higher resistance to jamming and an increase in the missile launch area. The upgrade also increases the likelihood of survivability of key elements of the system in combat - in particular, by reducing the time to deploy and retract the complex (which is also served by limiting the necessary cable connections between elements) and by moving the control element (UNK-2M cab) and firing elements (5P73-2M) away from the centre of the firing position (UNV-2M cab with aerial system).

The upgraded system also includes an improved KRTZ-125-2M radioelectronic protection system. The complex enables the use of 5V27D and 5V27DE anti-aircraft missiles.

Individual elements (the chassis used may vary depending on the customer's wishes):

UNK-2M - the control cab is housed in a container on an MZKT-8022 (4x4) truck chassis and makes full use of digital signal processing. All systems and elements are replaced as part of the upgrade. The transmission of information between the antenna unit and the control cab is also digital via fibre optic cable and a pair of radio data links. Inside the container (which is equipped with standardized ISO mounts, allowing it to be transported by any ISO container carrier) there are workstations for a four-man crew - a commander, a launch operator and 2 missile guidance operators. The container also includes, among other things, a data exchange system, an information storage system, an MRK-11P satellite navigation system and a trainer. It also includes its own power supply and functional control system.

The UNV-2M - the UV-40M receiving equipment and the 9Š38 optical sight have been removed from the missile guidance station, a total of 90% of the original systems have been upgraded. To the maximum extent, elements using digital signal processing are installed, including the receiver, interference protection systems, moving target selection, control signal calculation systems, synchronizer, target and missile imitator. MRK-11V satellite navigation is used for positioning. For communication with launchers, wired and radio links are used. A new electro-optical dual-channel system UV-38 (optical and infrared channel) is installed for target detection in otical mode. The system, including the antennas, is mounted on the chassis of a MZKT-80211 (6x6) truck and has its own power supply. Antenna deployment and retraction is provided hydraulically.

5P73-2M - the launcher for 2 missiles is located on the chassis of the MZKT-8021 truck, and the vehicle also includes a power generator necessary for operation in the firing position and a control system for checking the technical condition of the loaded missiles. In addition to firing the missiles, the launcher also enables their transport, thus minimising the time required to enter and leave the firing position. Each vehicle is equipped with a navigation system (including a satellite system) and does not require special engineering terrain preparation for its operation. The electronic elements of the launcher have been 95% upgraded.

The 5V27D - the missile's first stage has been upgraded, achieving a range extension to 32 km, and the missile's mean velocity in the area of target destruction has been increased by 100 m/s due to new fuel.

PR-14-2MPR-14-2M - the reloadable transporter uses the chassis of a UraL-4320 truck, which carries 2 missiles. The reloading transporter allows to carry out the loading/unloading of the 5P73-2M launcher with its own forces.

Basic charactristics:

Target Detection Range:
- 100 km max. for a target with an effective reflecting surface of 2 m2 without jamming
- 50 km for a target with an effective reflecting surface of 0,15 m2 without interference
- 40 km for active jamming with a maximum power of 2000 W/MHz from a jamming aircraft at a distance of 100 km
Max. Range with 5V27D rocket:
- at 500 m - 20 km
- at an altitude of 5000-20000 m - 28 km
Max. Range with 5V27DE:
- 500 m - 22 km
- at 5000-20000 m - 32 km
Altitude range:
- 200-20000 m
Number of launchers:
- max 8
- or when using multiple UNV-2M guidance stations - 4 launchers per UNV

One of the states that has introduced the Pechora 2M PLRK into its arsenal is Venezuela. It ordered a total of 11 units, deliveries of which began in June 2011.
On 04.02.2012, the PLRK was presented at a military parade in Caracas. Pictured are the 5P73-2M (5П73-2М) self-propelled launcher on the MZKT-8021 (МЗКТ-8021) chassis and the PR-14-2M (ПРР-14-2М) transport and reload transporter.
