On May 7, 2021, the flagship of the Navy of the Russian Federation was ceremoniously erected in the Sevmaš shipyards in Severodvinsk on board the attacking nuclear submarine Kazan (tower number K-561). Kazan (s.no. 161) is the first submarine of Project 08851 (885M, Ash-M, NATO code Severodvinsk, or Graney), which was put into service. Its construction began on July 24, 2009 and was launched on April 8, 2017.
Although it was supposed to be handed over to the service in 2017 according to the original contract, its construction was slipping and the final factory tests did not start until September 24, 2018 and the state final tests even in October 2020.
