Members of the Arrow Cross Party briefly interned him, and the Gestapo issued an arrest warrant for him. After the war, on trumped-up charges, he was sentenced to 10 years of forced labour and transported to Siberia. On 16 September 1947, the National Court in Bratislava sentenced him to death in absentia during a single hearing for treason against the Czechoslovak Republic and collaboration with fascism. On the basis of a presidential pardon, his death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. He died on March 8, 1957, after a long pilgrimage through many of the Czechoslovak prisons of the time, in Mírov, in the Šumperk region.
