Remains of famous sea explorer found in London
Archaeologists during a rescue survey in James's Gardens in Euston, London, have discovered the remains of the captain of the Royal navy Matthew Flinders. It was known to the navigator, a hydrologist and a scientist. He became famous in particular by mapping the coast of Australia on HMS Investigator. He was buried in 1814, but his tombstone was removed in 1840. It was named after him station to Flinders Station in Melbourne and the city of Flinders in Victoria. On the occasion of the 200. the anniversary of his death revealed prince William in London his statue.
The old cemetery is removed, to make room for the construction of a station of the new line of high-speed rail. The grave was identified according to preserved the lead plates from the coffin.
