The SD 1700 is designed against warships (up to cruiser size) and industrial structures. It pierces 60 mm armour plate (at a minimum 60° angle of attack). The bomb has a one-piece body of cast or pressed steel with a hardened tip and is fitted with a head ring against change of direction in water. It has a standard matt beige-grey paint finish (RAL 7027), black 'D 1700' lettering on the body and yellow bands with a blue central band on the conical stabilisation surfaces. The bomb is packed on a transport base 4 (TG4). The weight of the empty base is approximately 215 kg.
