SOV - ZSU-57-2 (2x57mm samohybný PL kanon)

ZSU-57-2
The vehicle was developed in the then USSR as an anti-aircraft military air defense vehicle based on the S-60 57 mm caliber towed automatic anti-aircraft gun.
The ZSU-57-2 was produced at Plant No. 174 in Omsk from 1955 to 1960, and according to other sources at other enterprises in the then USSR.
After the development of the device was completed, it was given the factory designation "Device 500" - изделие 500 and the military designation ZSU-57-2 - "ЗСУ-57-2".
Armament: 57 mm twin cannon based on S-60, mirror reversed breech (not just reversed) due to the loading system and the location of the two loaders' stations to the left and right of the guns in the front of the turret. The automatic weapon, designated S-68, based on the principle of using the energy of the weapon's short slide. The guidance of the weapon to the target is elctric and manual (emergency). The weight of the armament is 4500 kg.
The turret of the vehicle is open from above, covered by a tarpaulin with 13 Plexiglas windows. At the rear of the turret there is a basket for catching fired cartridges and empty magazines.
The ZSU-57-2 is equipped with an optical automatic sight, working on the principle of calculating the point of contact of the target with the batch of missiles.
The following parameters were entered when the target was detected with the firing task solved: target speed (entered according to the type of aircraft), the directional angle of target movement (according to the direction of flight and the angle of its ascent/descent) and the distance to the target (estimated or using an optical rangefinder). Parameters entered manually.
Firing diameter: 300 rounds of 57 mm ammunition in total, of which 248 rounds in 'magazines', these stored in the turret (176 rounds) and in the front part of the hull (72 rounds), the rest of the firing diameter in holders on the right and left under the turret wreath in the hull.
The chassis was derived from the medium tank T-54, due to the reduction in weight and specific pressure, the number of running wheels was reduced by one on each side of the chassis, thus increasing their spacing. At the same time, the driver's compartment was changed, the driver could observe the terrain through a cutout in the frontal armour, which could be covered by an armour plate, and he had the usual day and night vision (infrared) observation devices.V-54 engine, 12 cylinders, TTD the same as T-54....
Fuel supply 640 l of diesel stored in 3 integral tanks inside the hull, fuel further in tanks on the right fender (each 95 l capacity).
Communication equipment: rdst 10-RT-26E (range 7-15 km on the move, 9-20 km from the spot) and TPU-47 internal talker.
Designation: military air defence equipment
Incorporation: 1 pl battery (4 vehicles) in the tank regiment line-up, according to some sources the platoon could be reinforced with ZTPU-2 (2x14.5 mm) on BTR-40 and/or BTR-152 armoured personnel carriers.
First used in combat conditions in the Vietnam War, deliveries to Hungary, GDR, Poland, Finland, Angola, Syria, Egypt, Cuba, Iran, DPRK, China and other countries. Also used in the Middle East.

The weapon was characterized by a low rate of fire, the disadvantages were manual loading, the practical impossibility of firing on the move, the low rate of fire in both sighting and aiming, the lack of radar guidance of the weapon to the target, and ...the firing efficiency of the ZSU-57-2 battery was lower than that of the battery of towed S-60 (of course S-60 from the spot, using the firing control panel),
