SS-Jagdverband Ost
SS East Fighter Union
SS-Jagdverband Ost was formed as SS-Jäger-Bataillon Ost from the Brandenburg unit Streifkorps Einsatzgruppe Baltikum (Dr. Manfred Pechau). This unit was transferred to the Waffen-SS in September 1944. In November 1944, some members of the Jagdeinsatz Ostland jumped near Minsk to help the besieged German unit (Kampfgruppe Scherhorn). However, it was a radio counterattack by Russian military intelligence and they were all captured. The men of this unit also took part in Operation Brauner Bär, which supported the Ukrainian resistance movement of Stefan Bandera. Later they fought with the Red Army at Hohensalza (also Inowroclaw, near Posen), where the whole unit was almost destroyed. Subsequently, it was transformed into a company that fought at Neusterlitz and Sachsenhausen. The company was assigned to the Heeresgruppe Mitte, was forced to retreat to Opava and fought in Silesia and Czechoslovakia until the end of the war.
