Silver War Commemorative Medal 1814/1815
Silberne Kriegsdenkmünze 1814/1815
The medal was established at the end of the year (December ?) 1814. Prince Charles awarded the medal to his soldiers who fought together in the Frankfurt Gouvernement as part of the Home Regiment of Isenburg.
The medal with a diameter of 28 mm is struck in silver the weight is given as 10-11 g.
Obverse:
In the centre of the decoration we see a monument (stated to be columnar) standing on a base. Symbolic war trophies (weapons, banners, cannon barrel of captured French cannon, mortar, cannonballs) are symbolically spread around.
In the centre of the memorial is a crowned shield with the letter 'J' in its centre. At the top of the medal is the year 1814.
Reverse:
On the reverse is an oak wreath, which is tied at the bottom with a ribbon. In the centre of the medal and thus in the centre of this wreath is a three-line inscription :
MIT GOTT / FÜRS / VATERLAND (With God for the Fatherland).
Ribbon:
The ribbon is 35 mm wide, white with a 10 mm wide black central stripe and a 2 mm wide pale blue and at the edge a 1 mm wide golden yellow side stripe 1 mm from the edge of the ribbon.
Notes:
The medal is rare, intended for a limited number of warriors. Nevertheless, this medal exists in three official variants. The mintage is the same and differs only in partial details.
