K-51
К-51
Soviet chemical hand grenade K-51

Brief history and description

The K-51 chemical hand grenade was developed in the late 1970s. The body of the grenade is made of plastic and fitted with a metal bottom. RG K-51s are filled with a powdered, highly irritating non-lethal substance (probably CS). The effectiveness of the RG K-51 is several times greater than that of a demonstrator dispersal grenade, as it was designed for the military and special services. The RG explodes with a delay of 3-4 seconds due to the K-510 (K 510) fuse.
Those hit are paralyzed by cutting sensations in the eyes and breathing difficulties (coughing and shortness of breath). Affected persons are reportedly combat-capable for 20-30 minutes. The RG is designed for use in confined spaces of up to 400 m2.
