History of the department dates back to the period of autumn 2002. The very formation of the department was preceded by a close cooperation of the newly created emergency department and the existing department of the secretary of defense in the organizational structure of the Headquarters protective services VP. Both departments cooperated from the outset, to ensure the safety of the minister of defence and national delegations when traveling to risk areas abroad. In this period were members of the department charged with ensuring the security of the NATO Summit in Prague, and shortly after were deployed to the fulfilment of short-term tasks in Afghanistan.

In 2003, the unit deployed as part of the protection contingent of the field hospital of the Czech republic in Iraq, at the time of the war in Iraq at the Embassy of CZECH republic in Kuwait and later in Baghdad in the Czech mission OCPA; subsequently became a part of the unit part of a contingent of Military police in the southern province of Basra. In 2004, the British contingent operating in Iraq has claimed members of the department for the protection of his then prime minister T. Blair and to ensure the personal protection of the british division commander.

The character of the activities of these elements and the nature of the performed tasks - ensuring the security of soldiers of the CZECH army and CZECH citizens working in foreign missions, protection against terrorist attacks and, if necessary, rescue the hostages was initiated in the fall of 2004 the creation of the special operations VP (ÚSpO VP / SOG). Staffed with a unit recruited from the members of special military and police units of the CZECH republic. Members of the unit were tasked with securing the protection of the minister/minister of defence and other very important people especially when traveling to risk areas. Service provided in the period 2005-2006 for a period of one year the personal protection of the commander of the brigade Centre, in the framework of the international task force KFOR in Kosovo, and performing tasks associated with collecting the information using human sources (HUMINT). In conjunction with the Department for the protection of constitutional officials of POLICE and Department rapid deployment ensures ÚSpO VP safety of very important persons during their visits in high-risk areas.
