The production series referred to as StuG III Ausf. The F8 began using a modified 8./Z.W. chassis.Messrs. Müller and Zimmermann claim that at the beginning of production the vehicles were produced on medium tank platforms Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.J and Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.L, and later on the 8.Z.W. platform intended for the StuG (the platforms intended for the tanks and the StuGs were not identical). Messrs. Jentz and Doyle claim that for this version of the StuG III Ausf. F8, the platforms directly designed for the StuG were produced by Brandenburger Eisenwerke (manufacturer code "cwb") and did not use the Pz.Kpfw.III production tubs. Given the radical change in tub design, while it is possible that tubs were not taken from orders for the Pz.Kpfw.III, it is clear from photographic evidence that tubs bearing the hallmarks of the Pz.Kpfw.III production were used, in addition to the standard final form of the tub intended for the StuG.Kpfw.III[/url] (one-piece hatches over the brakes/air vents blinded with plugs, offset deflector protecting the driver's visor...). However, Messrs Jentz and Doyle point out that these details characteristic of the Pz.Kpfw.III were also used in the early days of tub production for the StuG. It was only later that changes to these details were converted into the final form.
The Ausf. F8 used the same superstructure as its predecessor StuG III Ausf. F. The chassis of the 8.Z.W. had several changes from the previous one (hatches over the engine and gearbox, redesigned rear section of the hull with exhaust pipe, integrated towing lugs in the side plates of the hull, etc. typical of the 8.Z.W. series.

Identification features of the StuG III Ausf. F8:
- short fixed fenders at the front, folding large fenders at the rear
- fixed antenna without storage rail on both sides of the hull - handles mounted symmetrically on the rear sides of the armoured box on the sides of the superstructure
- some vehicles had a wire protective cage above the gun sight

There were several types of ceiling armour with hatches over the clutches:

1. Hatches identical to those on the Pz.Kpfw. III (8th Z.W.) (each with a pair of hinges opening towards the front)
2. Hatches identical to the production Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. M (hatches secured by four internal locks)
3. At the end of production, the later standard two-piece hatches had side-opening hatches.

- The deflector in front of the driver's hatch is offset to the right á Pz.Kpfw. III (later the position relative to the visor is centered - since the installation of standard hatches)
- additional 30 mm hull nose armour was attached first by welding, later by welded screws
- the additional 30 mm armour on the superstructure front at the driver's visor was welded in place until 10/1942, from 10/1942 it was bolted in two parts (7 bolts) to make room for the integrated KFF 2 driver's periscope. When viewed from the front, the lower left screw is higher than the others in the row of lower screws. Combinations of bolted and welded armour on the superstructure faces and hull faces are also found.
- The additional 30mm armour on the superstructure face in front of the charger location (to the right of the gun) was welded until 10/1942, from 10/1942 onwards it was bolted (7 bolts). When viewed from the front, the lower right bolt is higher than the others in the row of lower bolts.
- The front body armour above the driver's head is more steeply sloped (creating more space in the fighting area). The same is true in the section above/in front of the charger compartment.
- a hemispherical cover mounted on the rear hull armour under the exhausts, held in place by four screws
- the hatches on the engine compartment were one-piece, opening towards the front, the right hatch had a single hatch and the left hatch had a pair of armoured fan covers situated longitudinally with the axis of the vehicle
- a pair of armoured fan cowls (situated transversely) at the rear of the engine cowling were fitted with spare wheel holders
- several StuG III Ausf. The F8 had a single-chamber stretch brake instead of a twin-chamber one (production ca. 9/1942)
- a rectangular or tubular distance indicator was mounted on the left rear fender (intended for maintaining a safe distance between vehicles in a column)
- the fenders consisted of five straight segments, widened in the middle section
- for this version the layout of the carried equipment (tools) was changed - no billet was added to the vehicle equipment, a pair of S-hooks was mounted behind the third bracket of the right fender next to the right air intake to the engine, the Tetra fire extinguisher (new model) was mounted on the left fender behind the fourth fender bracket, the engine starter crank was mounted on the side of the right engine air intake, the 4-piece gun barrel wiper was mounted behind the rear wall of the fighting compartment in front of the engine cowling, etc.

A total of 250 pieces were produced (Fgst.Nr.91401-91650). Also tested was the use of an armoured shield protecting the loader that was to operate the defensive machine gun (later used on the StuG III Ausf. G series).
