27.11.2020 prevzalo Štátne centrum prípravy leteckého personálu a vojenských jednotiek v Lipecku dvojicu lietadiel Su-35S (RF-95911, trupové číslo "cervená 08" a RF-95912, trupové číslo "červená 11"). Ide o dva z troch Su-35S, ktoré predstavitelia Ministerstva obrany a Ozbrojených síl Ruskej federácie prevzali u výrobcu dňa 25.11.2020. Tieto lietadlá boli súčasne poslednými Su-35S, ktoré boli vyrobené na základe kontraktu z decembra 2015 na dodávku 50 ks lietadiel a ktorých výroba prebiehala v rokoch 2016-2020 tempom cca 10 lietadiel ročne.
Tretie prevzaté lietadlo Su-35S (trupové číslo "červený 10") sa stane súčasťou 23. stíhacieho leteckého pluku 303. gardovej zmiešanej leteckej divízie 11. armády Letectva a PVO Východného vojenského okruhu.


Ku koncu roku 2020 sú lietadlá Su-35 súčasťou výzbroje:
- 105. gardový stíhací letecký pluk 105. zmiešanej leteckej divízie 6. leningradskej armády Letectva a PVO Západného vojenského okruhu (základňa Besovec, Karélia)
- 23. stíhací letecký pluk 303. gardovej zmiešanej leteckej divízie 11. armády Letectva a PVO Východného vojenského okruhu (základňa Dzemgi, Komsomolsk na Amuru)
- 22. stíhací letecký pluk 303. gardovej zmiešanej leteckej divízie 11. armády Letectva a PVO Východného vojenského okruhu (jedna letka, základňa Centralnaja Uglovaja, Prímorský kraj)
- 790. stíhací letecký pluk 105. zmiešanej leteckej divízie 6. leningradskej armády letectva a PVO Západného vojenského okruhu (jedna letka, základňa Hotilov, Tverská oblasť).


8 lietadiel je súčasťou akrobatickej skupiny "Ruskí rytieri" (letisko Kubinka), ďalších 8 je v Centre prípravy leteckého personálu a vojenských jednotiek v Lipecku. 8 až 11 lietadiel je súčasťou 929. strediska štátnych leteckjých skúšok v Achtubinsku (Astrachanská obasť). Prvý sériový Su-35S sa používa ako testovacie lietadlo v Leteckom výskumnom inštitúte.


V roku 2018 bolo jedno Su-35S vyradené ("červený 53", vyrobené v roku 2016) a presunuté ako stacionárna učebná pomôcka pre Sibírsky vedecko-vyskumný inštitút letectva v Novosibírsku.

In 2018, Egypt awarded a contract for the delivery of 30 (originally mentioned 20-24) Su-35(S) aircraft. According to Russian media reports, the first five aircraft (tail designations 9210, 9211, 9212, 9213 and 9214) were to be ready for transport to Egypt in mid-2020 and were widely believed to have been shipped. They were to be followed by 10 more aircraft in 2021. However, according to an article in Air & Space magazine and available satellite imagery, there are 15 (11 in June 2021) decommissioned Su-35s in camouflage similar to the Egyptian one at the Komsmolsk production facility in Amur. The author also draws attention to the fact that there is no information from the Egyptian side about the use of the Su-35 (as opposed to the MiG-29M/M2).


The fact that the aircraft were not moved to Egypt in the summer of 2020 is evidenced by the catches of Russian spotters - they intercepted aircraft in Zhukovsky (Aerospace Research Institute) in December 2020 - namely 9212, 9213 and 9214. The 9214 aircraft was also identified in the area in February 2021. In June, a machine with the number 9210 was intercepted in the area, and in October 2021, in turn, the 9211 was intercepted in the same area. Thus, a total of 20 aircraft from the Egyptian order should be produced (15 in the production plant and 5 in Zhukovsky).


Why the planes are not in Egypt may have 2 explanations - either the Egyptian pilots are being trained on the new equipment in Russia on their own equipment (which is quite a common practice in the world and only in the USA several Arab states have their training units and some NATO members follow a similar practice in the case of the F-35s). Or Egypt is concerned about the final fulfilment of the contract in light of the threat of possible sanctions by the US under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act passed in July 2017. The U.S. has already expressed its concern about Egypt's purchase of Russian aircraft through Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on February 23, 2021.

Three Su-35 fighter jets have reportedly landed in Iran.
