The T-84U tanks were produced for the Ukrainian army in 2001 in 10 units. Later, four were sold to the USA and the remaining six were transferred to training facilities where they were only minimally used (one to the National Defence University of Ukraine and five to the Academy of Land Forces of Ukraine). The overhaul and partial upgrade of all six machines was completed in November 2016. Five T-84Us operated by 14th Independent Mechanized Brigade participated in the Strong Resolve 2018 exercise and Strong Europe Tank Challenge 2018 competition in Germany.
