In accordance with the Supreme Decision of 29 May 1815, the Tyrolean Hunting Regiment was established on 1 January 1816, taking over the men of the former Tyrolean Fenner Hunting Corps.

The regiment consisted of four battalions of six companies each. In 1849, the regiment was reorganised - it continued to consist of six battalions of four companies. In addition, a reserve battalion was created, which was later renamed the 7th Battalion.

The regiment grew until in 1894 it consisted of sixteen battalions and four cadres of reserve battalions. The size of this unit far exceeded that of an ordinary regiment or even a brigade. In 1895, the Tyrolean Hunting Regiment was divided into four new regiments, forming the 1st Regiment of the Tyrolean Imperial Hunters, 2nd Regiment of the Tyrolean Imperial Hunters, 3rd Regiment of the Tyrolean Imperial Hunters and 4th Regiment of the Tyrolean Imperial Hunters.
