A Type 16 combat vehicle from the 42nd Regiment/8th Division in transit during a training exercise in early 2018. Noteworthy is the superstructure over the driver's compartment, which enhances its comfort during operation. It is used in areas where hostile activity is not anticipated, or during parades (I have not been able to track down the author of the photo).

Why is it included in armored cars? I'd rather look for a fire support vehicle in tank fighters, or among artillery.

My colleague,
if I understand the electronic translations from the Japanese correctly, it is a light combat vehicle designed for manoeuvre combat and for forays into the rear of the enemy. That's why I classified the MCV as an armoured vehicle.

It is in the same category of vehicles as the Italian B1 Centauro, or the American M1128 Stryker MGS. The Japanese themselves predestined the vehicle for rapid deployment units for fire support of infantry and combat with enemy armoured vehicles. Personally, I confess that I think of the term armoured car as a slightly different category of vehicle. More similar to regular cars and not armoured personnel carriers or BVP. Additionally, the underpinnings of this vehicle were developed as part of the Japanese Future Wheeled Fighting Vehicle project, and apart from a fire support vehicle, an anti-aircraft vehicle or self-propelled howitzer was also planned (and I'm not sure if there was supposed to be a BVP as well, since even the MCV Type 16 allows for swarm transport in a certain situation).
