VTS Ladoga (Высокозащищённое транспортное средство - transport vehicle with high protection) was developed as a reconnaissance and command post for nuclear warfare conditions. It is characterized by strong armour and resistance to penetration by chemical, bacteriological and radioactive agents, allowing it to operate even in infested areas.
The first (and probably only) deployment in the conditions for which Ladoga was developed occurred in 1986 after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. On 03.05.1986 the vehicle was airlifted to Kiev and then moved on its own axis to the plant. Operated by specialists from the manufacturer's design office, the vehicle was responsible for surveying and sampling the areas contaminated after the accident, often with high-ranking representatives of the energy industry or the military (members of the commission) responsible for the remediation work on board.
The vehicle operated at the accident site until 28.09.1986, covering a distance of 4 720 km. The vehicle moved in areas with radiation up to 1 600 X-rays/hour, penetrated the engine room of the power plant, video recordings of the most dangerous places were made from its deck, and a lot of other work was carried out.
In 2013 there was information that the Ministry of Defence wanted to resume the production of the vehicle, e.g. for the needs of the evacuation of the top government officials.

A video of the drone attack on VTS Ladoga was posted on the website of the 63rd Independent Mechanized Brigade (63rd OMBr). Further details were not given, but it is known that at the time the 63rd OMBr was fighting near the town of Lyman in the Donetsk area.
