Vought F4U-5N (NL) Corsair

The pilot used AN/APS-19 radar to search for targets, located in a drop-shaped housing on the right wing (on its leading edge).
The NL model differed from the N version in that a de-icing device was placed on the leading edges of the wings and tail surfaces. The freezing weather in Korea required this adjustment. Version 5N (5NL) had, in contrast to the version 5 on the main cannons flame dampers (there were exceptions without dampers) and flame retardant shields on the engine cover.
In addition to the night chase itself, this version was also used as a night target marker. The pilot used his radar to find the target, which he then marked with incendiary ammunition. The target marked in this way was then bombed by other units.

F4U-5N (BuNo 124453, "ANNTE MO") from the armament of the mixed squadron VC-3, July 1953. At this time, the unit operated from the airport K-6, not from its parent aircraft carrier USS Princeton. The pilot of the machine was Lt. Guy Bordelon, who has the status of the only American fighter ace of the Korean War, which did not fly on the type F-86 Saber. All white markings on the depicted aircraft were sprayed with light blue due to unmasking symptoms.

Super photos, it deserves only the greatest giant on the F4U-5N, the only night fighter ace from Korea. Satisfied Guy Bordelon and his "horse" in the background.
