The construction of fortu Werk Coni Zugna, which had the task of blocking access to Rovereto after a mountain ridge Zugna, began in 1907 and was cancelled in August 1914, after the outbreak of the 1. world war. In the meantime, were built the access roads, barracks for the accommodation of the crew, collector of rainwater with the relevant storage tank, and two mountain artillery caverns.
In march 1915, the austrian command decided that this area clear, and at the end of June 1915 withdrew the garrison into the field position before Roveretem. The construction site of fortu occupied by the Italian army. In may of 1916 was launched the austro-Hungarian counter-offensive, during which the Austrians tried to conquer this position back, but the Italian units attack reflected and unfinished, ever unfinished fortress Werk Coni Zugna, remained in their hands until the end of the war...
In may 1918 made the Italians out of the space Coni Zugna one of their favorite frontal attacks on austro-Hungarian positions on the top of the Zugna Torta. In the framework of the artillery preparation ended on the austrian position 37 000 shells, of which 3 000 of gas. The following infantry attack, of course, was shipwrecked in the fire of the austrian guns, and the Italians, who lost 453 men, retreated back into the starting position. The winning entry to the Many you had to wait until the austro-Hungarian surrender in November 1918...
