Madsen/Saetter Mk.II universal machine gun

The Madsen/Saetter machine gun is a Danish general-purpose machine gun designed in the early 1950s by designer Eric Larsen-Saetter. Indonesia became the sole customer for this automatic weapon, and also purchased the manufacturing license and produced the weapon for the Indonesian Army at a factory in Pindad. The South American Salvador army also acquired a certain number of machine guns, which were chambered for the .30-06 cartridge. An unspecified number of Salvadoran weapons were later to be rechambered for the 7.62×51 mm NATO calibre.

The Madsen/Saetter Mk. II is an autoloading weapon whose automatics work on the principle of gas extraction from the barrel. The long-stroke gas piston is located under the barrel and is adjustable. Which means that the weapon's cadence can be adjusted from 600 to 1000 shots per minute. The barrel is air-cooled, and the cartridges are fed into the chamber from a metallic, non-collapsing, sectional cartridge belt, housed in three types of cartridge boxes - 50, 100 and 250-piece.

The barrel is quickly removable. The cartridge feeder has a mechanism similar to that of the German MG 42 machine gun. The gun has a wooden stock, pistol grip and folding bipod. However, it can also be mounted on a tripod, giving it the character of a heavy machine gun. There is also a tank version, which lacks the wooden stock and can be mounted on a special lightweight tripod after removal from the vehicle.
