1.Old and foreign names of the village and inhabitants' names: 1662 Skalite, 1712 Szkalite, Hungarian. Szkalite, Sziklaszoros; Skalite; Skalite, -ka
2.Administrative incorporation: county of Trenčín; district of Čadca, county of Žilina until 1960; district of Čadca, county of Central Slovakia

6.Area of the locality: 3319 ha


II.Natural conditions: 524 m in the centre of the village, 490-867 m in the chotári. It is situated in the western part of the Slovak Beskydy Mountains near the state border with the Polish Republic. The moderately rugged hilly, mountainous chotár is formed only in the south by the Tertiary highlands. Scattered forest areas in the southern part, more continuous in the northern part. It has brown forest soils. Other -> Čadca


III.History:
2nd-3rd:Before 1918, after 1918: the village is mentioned 1662. It was founded by pastoral colonization in the 1st half of the 19th century. In the 1st half of the 17th century. It belonged to the manor of Strečno. In 720 it had 4 mills and 40 taxpayers, in 1784 241 houses, 286 families 1740 inhabitants, in 1828 287 houses and 2169 inhabitants. During the First Czechoslovak Socialist Republic the inhabitants stayed with their traditional occupations and also went for seasonal agricultural work. In 1938 part of the territory was taken over by Poland. JRD founded 1951, 1953 disappeared. Most of the inhabitants work in industrial plants in Kysuce, Třinec and especially in Ostrava, some of them as private peasants.


IV.Culture:
9.Monuments: -Roman-Catholic church of late Baroque style from 1794, built on the site of a wooden one, enlarged in 1957.
-The rectory building - late baroque from 1796.
-Soviet Army Monument from 1959.
11.Ethnography: free chain colonial buildings. From the beginning of the 20th century there are log three-room houses, enlarged by a side chamber and a porch. -Variant of folk dress-> Oscadnica. Walking with the Turon at the time of Fasiangs has been preserved until today. Of the traditional songs, the wedding songs, while raking in the field, while dancing, are remarkable. Typical joking lyrics, two-part singing.


V.Health care: since 1958 there is a children's convalescent home with 52 beds.
