Church of the nativity of Virgin Mary

This is a fairly young construction on the site of the original two churches. The first was a wooden church with a monastery of dominicans, which originated after the mid-13th. century for the investment of the Vartenberk (probably Havel z Lemberka, together with his wife st. Zdislavou). This church was during the hussite wars in 1424 burnt and died and the monks of the monastery. After the restoration of the tabernacle in this place, it in the years 1550 to 1620 enjoyed the Unity of the fraternal. The year 1643 there was another fire and the subsequent further correction of the church. The church escaped the cancellation josefskými reforms thanks to the intercession of the court librarian Fortunáta Durycha, originating from the town of Turnov. However, the church was in poor condition so the new owners of the estate Aehrenthalové decided to church in 20. years of the 19th. century to tear down and replace it with a completely new building. The construction work was begun in 1825 and finished in 1853. Chosen was neo-gothic style, which became the church of one of the first such churches in Europe. While he had never been quite complete, the tower had not been completed. The structure is built according to the project of the project of the viennese architect Martin Hausknechta that the construction from the beginning and led, subsequently, was relieved by Karl Schrammem and after further Bernard Grueberem. Furniture of the church from 1843, designed by architect Josef Kranner. Around the church there is a large cemetery. When entering into it is the monument of the Red army. For a change up to his almost other hand, is situated a military cemetery from 1. world war ii with the modern conception of the monument to the victims of this war. In the cemetery are buried many important figures of the city of Turnov, including two former RAF pilots.
