Poznámka:
Note:
Palubní výškový stíhací letoun. Carrier-borne high-altitude fighter.

In view of unsatisfactory progress in the development of the XH-2470 engine was the XF14C-1 canceled and Curtiss adapted the design of the aircraft around the new turbocharged Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone engine. The aircraft equipped with this eighteen cylinder twin row radial air-cooled engine and three bladed contra-rotating propellers was designated the XF14C-2.. Also, looking at the problems of operation at altitudes of about 40,000 ft, the Navy also initiated work on a third version with a pressurized cockpit designated the XF14C-3.
Ultimately, only the XF14C-2 prototype was completed, flying for the first time in July 1944. Moreover, disappointment with performance estimates and delays with the availability of the XR-3350-16 engine coupled with the tactical need for an extremely high altitude fighter that failed to materialize led to cancellation of the development.

Comment:
The XF14C-1 onboard fighter was canceled in late 1943, this machine was to be powered by a twenty-four-cylinder engine Lycoming XH-2470 and was to be armed with four 20 mm cannons with 800 rounds per barrel.

The Curtiss-Wright factory underwent a major overhaul of the fuselage, the new aircraft was powered by a massive eighteen-cylinder Wright XR-3350-16, so a new version marked as - XF14C-2, again it was an onboard high-altitude fighter. Cannon armament was probably not built in (only mock-ups) and for possible production was calculated with the classic armament of six half-inch machine guns.

Motor Wright R-3350 -16 Duplex Cyclone was supercharged by a turbocharger and at an altitude of 9,000 m reached an output of 2,250 horsepower.

The maximum speed was reached at an altitude of 9,750 m, because the engine did not reach the required power and the development of the aircraft dragged on, and it was also a high-altitude fighter, so the Navy did not show interest in its production and the project was stopped and canceled in 1945.
