* námorný personál ktorý ukončil službu 6 mesiacov a aspoň jedna plavba bola vykonaná cez operačnú oblasť
* príslušníci Královský pozorovacieho zboru za službu 1080 dní
Udelované za službu v zvláštných oblastiach, kde stačil na udelenie jeden deň.

Hviezda bola automaticky udeľovaná ak služba končila smrťou, telesným postihnutím alebo zranením.

Udelenie medaily za chrabrosť alebo zmienka v správach boli taktiež dôvodom na okamžité udelenie.		 award for
* 6 months service in an area of (overseas) operational army command (Two months for Aircrew).
* Naval personnel qualified if they completed 6 months service, and at least one voyage was made through an operational area.
* Royal Observer Corps personnel for service of 1,080 days.
Qualifying Special Areas was neccesssary one day or part thereof

The star was immediately awarded if the service period was terminated by death, disability or wounding.

The award of a gallantry medal or a Mention in Despatches also led to an immediate award.

Badge: 		Bronzová šesťcípa, 44 mm vysoká a 38 mm široká hviezda s kruhovým medailónom, v ktorom je monogram panovníka GRI VI, nad ním kráľovská koruna a v spodnej časti nápis THE 1939-1945 STAR.
Revers je hladký iba v prípade hviezd udelených Australianom a Južným Afričanom je na reverze vyrazené meno oceneného.		 Six-pointed star of yellow copper zinc alloy, with a height of 44mm and maximum width of 38mm.
In the obverse in center is situated Royal cipher - GRI VI, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circlet containing the words "The 1939-1945 Star".
The reverse is plain. Only in Australians and South Africans stars is there recipents name.

Stužka:
Ribbon Bar: 		Je tvorená 3 rovnakými vertikálnymi pruhmi, tmavomodrým, čarveným a svetlomodrým. Stužka bola navrhnutá Králom Jurajom VI a reprezentuje 3 príspevky k výťazstvu tvorené zložkami Královského námorníctva, armády a Královských vzdušných sil. The ribbon has three vertical stripes of dark blue, red and light blue. The ribbon was designed by King George VI, with the three equal bands representing the equal contributions towards victory of the Royal Navy, Army, and the Royal Air Force
