R-77M

Between 1992 and 1998, the active R-77M program was primarily focused on increasing the range to between 120 and 160 km (120 and 160 mi). The program was based on the PLRS R-77 (100 km range, TPH rocket engine) by replacing the rocket engine with a ramjet engine.

According to the latest reports, the dug-up missile was the latest model of the R-77-1, Izdelije 170-1 (NATO code: AA-12B). It was found in the area of Zhytomyr. The missile was probably lost due to a technical malfunction. It was introduced for Sukhoi Su-35 fighter aircraft.

The Russian Air Force inducted the R-77-1 missile into service in 2015. It features improved countermeasures resistance, a more sensitive seeker, and aerodynamic improvements - the grid-like control surfaces at the rear are retained.

According to open sources, the R-77-1 is 15 kg (33 lb) heavier than the baseline R-77/RVV-AE, weighing 190 kg (420 lb) instead of 175 kg (386 lb). Maximum range is increased to 110 km (68 mi) from 80 km (50 mi).

The missile is also slightly longer, 3.71 m (12.2 ft), rather than the 3.6 m (11.8 ft) of the baseline variant. Other improvements include enhancements to the missile's radar seeker and the missile's tail to reduce drag.
