The AIM-4 missile in its various versions was originally marked as GAR-1 to GAR-4. In 1963, in connection with the introduction of a new marking system, the designations GAR-1, GAR-1D, GAR-2, GAR-2A, GAR-2B, GAR-3, GAR-3A, GAR-4A were changed to (in the same order ) AIM-4, AIM-4A, AIM-4B, AIM-4C, AIM-4D, AIM-4E, AIM-4F, AIM-4G.
