Cannon of Afanasiev-Makarov design, 23 mm calibre.
It was used in the PV-23Tu-16 air defense system of the Tupolev Tu-16, which provided firing and targeting of on-board weapons in the area around the entire aircraft without dead zones.


The rate of fire was 1,300 rounds/min.

As can be seen in the attached sections, Mr. Afanasyev's air cannon is completely different from the products of the Nudelman design bureau and, on the contrary, uses identical design elements with the A 12.7 mm machine gun and the 2A7 /2A14 guns. In the picture the grooves in the barrel are incorrectly drawn, the barrel actually has 10 right-hand grooves with a pitch of 575 mm.
