The Asahi was built at the same time as the Shikishima-class battleships. Many authors classify it in this class, but Shikishima-class ships have three chimneys, while Asahi has only two. The silhouette is closer to British Formidable class battleships.
Asahi was founded in Glasgow by Clydebank Engineering & amp; Shipbuilding Company and completed by John Brown & amp; Company. At launch, it was the heaviest battleship built on the River Clyde. Its delivery was delayed in 1900 because when it sailed for Japan, it immediately sank. Supplies and ammunition were unloaded, the ship had to be cleaned, and after an inspection in a dry dock, it could return to Japan. She arrived in Yokosuka on October 23, 1900.
She actively served in the Russia - Japan War, 26.10.1904 encountered a floating mine. After the repair, she took part in the battle of Cušima, where she received 9 hits, which killed 8 men and wounded 23.
Her life ended with a night attack by the USS Salmon, which hit her with two torpedoes out of four fired. Shortly after the intervention in 0103, Asahi sank at 10 ° 00 & # 8242; N 110 ° 00 & # 8242; E10 ° N 110 ° E. Sixteen men were killed, Captain Tamura, and 582 men were rescued.
