At the end of 1943, Büssing NAG developed the schwerer Wehrmachtschlepper (sWS) half-track artillery tractor, which was to replace the Sd.Kfz.6 weight category of 5 tons. However, a vehicle was created that contrasted with the German army tractors produced so far. A vehicle of an overall heavier weight category than its predecessor (empty weight was 9.5 tonnes), which was characterized by a low maximum speed but a high power-to-weight ratio. The vehicle tightened a load weighing 8 tons, the winch gave a full pull of 5 tons. Instead of the classic body used in similar German half-track tractors, the sWS had only a flatbed superstructure (a platform with wooden sidewalls). The vehicle was able to carry 4 tons of cargo (combat weight 13.5 tons). The armored anti-aircraft version was also proof of the considerable load capacity.

On August 9, 1944, Martini-Hütte from Salzkotten was asked to develop an armored rocket launcher on the sWS platform.
In the list of code designations from April 19, 1944, the classic tractor had the code name "Schleswig" and the anti-aircraft version with 3.7 cm Flak 43 code designation "Schwerin". The armored anti-aircraft version of the tractor was also used as a classic artillery tractor or truck, when the anti-aircraft cannon was removed and the tractor pulled, for example 8.8 cm Flak, or 8.8 cm PaK 43/41.

The sWS tractors were also produced by Vehicle Factory (Vozovka) a.s. Kolín. From the total original order SS213-1001/43 for 500 vehicles (in the form of classic tractors), 97 manufactured vehicles were documented in the period from 5/1944 to 2/1945. Further production probably for the second air raid of Allied aircraft from 28.12.1944 did not continue, respectively. may have continued, but production data after 2/1945 are not documented.
All sWS components were produced in Cologne except the engine and front axle. The price for one vehicle was agreed at 21,000 Reichsmarks. Serial numbers started from Fgst.Nr.250001.

Of interest is the Czechoslovak post-war project of a modified sWS known as PPT-8 (Tatra T 809), from which two prototypes were created.

Production:
The company Büssing NAG produced five prototypes (I know four serial numbers of prototypes, namely Versuchs-Fgst.Nr.2018-2021)

SWS preserved to this day:

Militärhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr, Dresden - tractor with spoked wheels (Fgst.Nr.150362, Bussing NAG) - the vehicle played in the East German series Begegnungen (1.part - Der Sumpf)

Liberty Museum Overloon - the machine is privately owned in Germany, but is on loan at the Dutch Museum (it is a prototype of the Versuchs-Fgst.Nr.2018 tractor with disc wheels, modified belts for better traction in the snow and new 13-tooth drive wheels)

Private owner in Germany - armored version without cannon. According to a source of survivingpanzers, it is a vehicle Fgst.Nr.250041, which means that it was made in Kolin, Czech Republic. According to the high loading area, it looks like a prototype armored version. However, it may be a failed museum arrangement. After reconstruction, the vehicle is located in the Panzermuseum Münster. At the previous exhibitor (Belgium?), the machine was mounted 3.7 cm Flak 18.

Military Museum of the Bundeswehr, Dresden

A vehicle from the time of East Germany, when you played in the series Begegnungen from 1967. It is an interesting series for technology, in the first four semi-tracked tractors are used.
Column at 22:13, if I correctly identified it:
Sd.Kfz.6 - Sd.Kfz.7 - sWS (Dresden) - Sd.Kfz.7.

Behind the chassis, behind the original driver's cab, there is a film (?) Attempt to replace the classic flatbed body with a body similar to the classic artillery versions of half-track tractors of other German types, eg Sd.Kfz.6, or Sd.Kfz.7. Maybe it's film props, but I guess in the post-war period, the tractor could have served in the civilian, perhaps military.

And a few more details, if I looked at this piece, it is a fairly large reconstruction of a wreck and probably some parts were missing.

Diskuse

Correct me if I'm wrong - I once (still in the then Atom) saw a photo of several vehicles of this type with disc wheels (type SdKfz 251 or OT-810 with relief holes) pulling heavy cannons at the show. I would like to point out that it was a ČSLA parade in Letná. Was this type produced after the war as a Tatra 809?
As it goes, of course I can't find a photo ...

I think that the Tatra 809 (ie CS version SWS) remained only in the prototype stage (but I'm not sure about the post-war technology is outside my area of interest)
