Note:
Jediný letoun AB-1 krátký čas v roce 1929 létal u spločnosti Nihon Koku K. K. Yuso jako pozemní letoun (s kolovým podvozkem), to až do převzetí Fokkerů Super Universal. Později létal AB-1 dosti dlouhou dobu u společnosti v Tokio Koku K. K. na trase Haneda - Šimoda zde létal jako plovákový. The sole AB-1 was used for a short time in 1929 by Nihon Koku Yuso KK as a landplane until the arrival of the Fokker Super Universal. Later, the AB-1 was used for many years by the Tokyo Koku K K, owned by Tamotsu Aiba, on the Haneda (Tokyo)-Shimoda route as a floatplane.

History:

In February 1926, was the Ministry of aviation announced a competition for a purely japanese transport aircraft, therefore the aircraft designed and built in Japan. The Company Aichi Tonkei Denki Seizo K. To. she got a grant which they have received all the participating firms.

For the company to Japan to work on the project took the engineer Tokuichiro Gomei and all overseen by the chief designer Tetsuo Miki. The entire aircraft was very similar to the German aircraft Heinkel HD-25, but the dimensions were, overall, greater. Changed were mezikřídelní strut. Seats for four passengers were placed in the vicinity of the center of gravity of the aircraft, the cabin before the open seats for the crew. The engine was selected with regard to the possible further production of the aircraft, i.e. "home", produced under license Aichi Lorraine W-12. The chassis was designed from the outset so as to make it possible to easily rebuild from wheeled to float and vice versa.
The competition is attended by other prototypes from the major aircraft manufacturers. Mitsubishi with the prototype of the MC-1 and Nakajima with the prototype, designated as N-36, which was the japanese version of Breguetu. The latter aircraft was destroyed in a crash and so the tests have gone through the prototypes of the AB-1 and MC-1. The two airplanes were alleged, that they provide a poor view for the pilot. AB-1 was rated better as a seaplane and the MC-1 was better with a wheeled undercarriage.
The japanese airlines ultimately use jednoplošné and imported Fokker Super Universal. The only aircraft Aichi AB-1 was used for a short period of time companies Nihon Koku To. To. Teide national park with a wheeled undercarriage, soon replaced it imported Fokker Super Universal. Aichi AB-1 then, he finished his career as a transport aircraft after several years of service, when he flew with the company Tokyo Koku To. To. Here he flew with float landing gear on the line Haneda - Shimoda.
The designation AB-1 means the Aichi Biplane and the digit 1 means that it was the first aircraft of this category.
