Curtiss F6C-2 Hawk -

At the request of the Navy, the last four machines out of nine ordered F6C-1 detained in factory and completed in the form of F6C-2 (brand name Model 34D). These machines were additionally reinforced to withstand landing on board the ship, given a more massive landing gear and spur. A spacer with hooks was added to the common axle of the landing gear wheels to catch the longitudinal ropes on board the aircraft carrier (they served to keep the aircraft in the direction, not to stop it), and a fire extinguisher was placed behind the cabin. They were also equipped with hangers for light bombs.

Three F6C-2, completed in November 1925, were handed over to the VF-2 fighter in San Diego, where they served together with the F6C-1 and four FB-1. The remaining machine was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1) - directly to the ship, so it bore the inscription USS LANGLEY - 6. A6974 later became the machine commander of the VF-2 Lt.Cdr. F. D. Wagner. In October 1936, the VF-2 participated in the maneuvers of the Pacific Fleet, and the fleet was warned that the VF-2 could launch a training attack on it. The fleet, though she knew the time of the raid, was utterly surprised by the dive, and her admiral had to admit she had no chance of defending. The F6C-2 flew the VF-2 until 1928, when they were also transferred to the Marine Corps. The last of them was scrapped in July 1931 after 345 flying hours.
Curtiss F6C-2 Hawk - Druhý F6C-2, ve zbarvení VF-2. Trup byl stříbrný, se žlutým horním křídlem. Ocas a pruh na trupu byly červené, před kabinou je původní znak letky, štít nad skříženými kanóny. V roce 1927 byl nahrazen insignií Chief Petty Officera poté, co letka přijala jméno Flying Chiefs.
