Kawamura Kageaki

Born in Kagoshima in the Satsuma-han estate/province area, present-day Kagoshima Prefecture.
His first military action was the Anglo-Satsuma War, where he fought as a samurai in the 1st Battalion of the Satsuma Clan.
During the Boshin War, he served as part of the Satsuma forces that overthrew the Tokugawa Shogunate. After the restoration of cShisaro Meiji, he is appointed commander of the Imperial Guard. In these early years of the Meiji era, Kawamura serves as a field commander during the suppression of various rebellions by Hagi and Satsuma, among others.
By the First Sino-Japanese War, Kawamura led the Imperial Guard Division and fought alongside it as a field commander in Taiwan. His combat exploits earned him the title of danshaku (Japanese equivalent of baron).

Early in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, he assumed command of the 10th Division. With it he participates as a field commander in the fighting on the Yalu River in 1904 and the Battle of Mudken. After the victorious campaign, he is again rewarded by the Emperor and promoted to the status of shishaku (viscount). After the war, Kawamura served as commander of the Tokyo garrison and in 1915 becomes field marshal.

Kawamura's grave is located in Aoyama Cemetery in Tokyo.
