Studebaker US-6 (G-630, přehled verzí)

Studebaker US6 / G630

Although all 3 companies succeeded in the US military competition and in 1941 serial production of their models began (US6 began production at the South Bend in Indiana in June 1941), ultimately most of the Studebakers produced ended up in Lend-Lease deliveries to US allies (especially the USSR).

As part of the Standard Nomenclature List, the vehicle received (regardless of version) catalog number G630.

US6 vehicles were produced in several versions differing in the cabin (canvas cover, fixed cabin), wheelbase (short - SWB - 148in/3759 mm, long - LWB - 162in/4115 mm), drive (6x6, 6x4), or installation of a winch and superstructures. The manufacturer distinguished the individual versions by the designation from U1 to U13. The US6 used a cabin of the civilian version of the M modified for military use, in December 1942, the production of vehicles began with an open cabin with a canvas cover. However, due to the complaints of the majority user - due to the climatic conditions of the USSR - the fixed roof of the cabin was returned to production in March 1943. In total, about 10,000 pieces of vehicles with a canvas roof were produced (out of a total of 197,687 vehicles). Production of the US6 model line was terminated in August 1945.

In an effort to increase vehicle production, it was decided in 1944 to start licensed production of the US6 at Reo Motors. A total of 22204 reo US6 vehicles were produced at Reo's Lansing plant by the end of the war.

Vehicles with 6x4 drive were designed for use on fixed roads as cars, with a specified maximum load capacity of 5 t (4536 kg). 6x6 off-road vehicles had a maximum payload set at 2.5 tonnes (2268 kg).

Due to the standardization, it was designed to supply the Allies, because the US Army was designated cars GMC CCKW 353 and for the US Navy International M-5-6. Most Studebacker cars were used in lend-lease deliveries to the Red Army. He was very popular with Soviet drivers and was called the "King of the Roads". The famous Katyusha was also built on their chassis.

Many of them also appeared, mainly within the Red Army, on the territory of Bohemia.

Rare shot of the car STUDEBAKER US-6 from service in the post-war Czechoslovak army. The vehicle may come from U.S. war surpluses. Army or from deliveries under the "leand-lease" program from the USSR.

Diskuse

[quote = "I'm at the beginning"] Many of them also, especially within the Red Army, appeared in the Czech Republic.
So here is a photo directly from us from Přelouč in 1945, where the Studebacker RA can be seen in the shot, probably in the form of a mobile field workshop or command post.

I'm not sure with the last picture, the glass seems a little sloping to Studebacker and the hood is weird (the fender, on the contrary, looks right), for comparison I attach a photo from the same side, another to the whole car and one to the space under the steering wheel which is not visible in your photo .

The photo from the same day and in the same place (square) is located in one of the HPMs and this Studebacker is photographed on the other side and most of it. I wanted to add this photo with the appropriate comment when I find a specific issue of that magazine. So please be a little patient Smile.

Well, I would say that the Studebakers got into our army more with our brigade from the USSR, where a lot of them served as cannon tractors. Something may have come as part of the UNRRA event, but I would have to find out if the Studebakers did. Otherwise, there is a film from the funeral of President Beneš, when a cannon with a coffin pulls a Studebaker with an African cabin, ie with a canvas roof.

It is a well-known fact that units of the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps used Studebaker US6 cars of various versions in greater numbers. There are a number of shots of these cars bearing the designation of "our" military body.

While studying the data for this famous two-and-a-half-ton (for the construction of the Studebaker US model from ICM), I came across the following interesting fact: One of the well-known Studebakers is the machine no. ČS-01-597 bearing the TRUTH WINNERS on both sides!
The photograph of this machine was used in an article by Zdeněk Procházka, in HPM 6/93. a photograph of the same machine was also used in an article about Studebakers written by Pavel Holý in 2004 in ATM magazine. A drawing of the same vehicle was printed in the same article.
Recently, a very interesting (in my opinion) publication "Studebaker US6" was published by Capricorn Publications. There is also a photo of Studebaker "TRUTH WINNERS!" Printed on page 1, but the car has the identification number ČS-01-665.

The photos come from the same period - May 1945, so I think they are two different cars. On closer inspection of the photos, it is also possible to distinguish different font sizes.
It is therefore likely that Studebakers with the words "TRUTH WINNERS!" there were two.
