The fifth serial F11C-2, BuNo 9269, keep in the factory, and has been adapted to the new Curtissův Model 67. the basic difference featured chassis, which, inspired by the machine new competitive companies Grummanwas now manually retractable landing using a chain transfer. This adjustment added about 105 kg, the upper wing because it was shifted slightly forward. The wheels would drag in the lower part of the bow just before the lower wing, which, to make the wheels fit, it was on both sides of the deepened, in the middle was created trough the curtains for a cougar or an additional tank. The rest of the machine remained essentially the same, as well as the engine. In this form the machine weighed 2004 kg, and at a height of 2438 meters achieve a speed 347,6 km/h.

Navy machine under the new designation XF11C-3 assumed 27. may 1933, and during the tests got also a new variable pitch propeller, the higher the back, hiding in the lifeboat, and partially covered cabin, what was at that time assembled on the BFC-2, and ultimately also to the pilot controlled trim tab on the výškovkách. In march 1934 it was renamed XBF2C-1. 24. September 1934 XBF2C-1 at the start of the NAS Hampton Roads failed engine and crashed into the sea. In February 1934, but was ordered 27 serial F11C-3, at the time of the completion of the already renamed the BF2C-1. These machines should be reinforced dragon, used the new wing, with metal frames as in the prototype XF11C-1, but with the profile of the NACA 2212. Competitor at this time not "Boeing", which after the completion of the last F4B-4 no successful naval fighter built, but the already mentioned company Grumman, which roughly at the same time received a contract for 44 F2F-1.

The first new Curtissy were completed in October, 1934, and were forwarded to the squadron VB-5B on board the new aircraft carrier USS Ranger about a month later. Corporate name of the Goshawk, which share with the BFC-2, by the way basically instantly fell in oblivion, and for naval pilots were still known mostly under the old family name, Hawk. Soon, however, revealed unexpected problems that greatly reduce the time you eventually spend in the service. While the metal wing worked on the army prototype XP-23 on shipping XF11C-1, the harmonic vibrations generated by the new engine caused that when the travel speed of the BF2C-1 could almost fall apart. The company built also an export version under the name of the Hawk III, which used the original wooden wings and that this problem shouldn't have. Tried different weights on the ends of the wings, I tried with the reinforcing wires tightened so that almost bent the wings, but none of that helped. The solution could be the replacement of the wings of the wooden of the Hawk III, but the navy was not considered financially viable.

The second problem was turbulent air currents, which were formed in a notch between the humps under the bow if it has been carried by the puma or the auxiliary tank. It partially managed to solve this by adding a semi-circular area, which helped smooth the flow of air. And the problem was also relatively weak chassis. All this has led to the decommissioning of the Goshawků from VB-5B between October 1935 and February 1936. They were replaced by Boeing F4B-4, drawn from the warehouse, until they are available new Grummany F3F-1. The last dot meant the incident from the beginning of the year 1937, when the machine 5-B-13 in routine practice bombing near San Diego collapsed wings. Curtiss even suggest relief of discarded machines and their use to stíhacímu training in Pensacole, but it was rejected. In January 1937 was 19 remaining machines, not counting the two machines used for testing, grounded and scrapped. It was so, that from them were taken the engines and all other applicable components, and the dragons were then at the San Diego thrown into the sea. Thus ingloriously ended the last fighter type, which the company Curtiss built for navy - from the F12C and F13C arose only prototypes, and F14C and F15C, resulting in the conclusion of the second world war, were also unsuccessful. The navy for a further sixty years has been dominated the fighter machines of the firm Grumman..
