The number of living holders of the order is limited to 24. Awarded and honorary members. Exceptionally decorated soldiers in time of war can get the order with swords. The current number of holders is 23 and single, Nelson Mandela, honorary member. In total, from the foundation of the order awarded the 189 persons and 10 honorary members.
The figure is Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, Bt, VC, KG, KP, GCB, OM, GCSI, GCIE, KStJ, PC, which was like the first in this order awarded.
