The AM-50 bridge car is a special wheeled vehicle equipped with a support, a laying and a bulldozer device. The special superstructure is mounted on the chassis Tatra 813. It is designed for bridging obstacles 10 to 12.5 m wide and a single-span bridge, as well as for building a bridge with multiple spans (maximum 8 spans) to bridge an obstacle up to 107 m wide and 5.15 m deep by means of a single-span bridge placed on fixed supports. The depth of the bridged obstacle can be in the range from 2 to 6 meters. When driving on heavier, muddy terrain, the tires can be inflated using the central tire inflation with which the chassis is equipped. It overcomes water obstacles up to a maximum depth of 1.4 m (including a wading wave) by driving without special modifications. The vehicle is further equipped with a filter ventilation device to protect the crew from radiation and chemical contamination. Each odd AM-50 bridge set had a BZ-T-813-M bulldozer mounted.

The development of the device began between 1968 and 1969. AM-50 were introduced into the armament of the Czechoslovak Army since 1972 (1975?).

After 2003, the Czech Army's AM-50 bridge cars were concentrated in armament 15. Engineer Rescue Brigade, which was gradually reorganized into 15. engineering brigade and then 15. Engineer Regiment. In his line-up, AM-50 vehicles run at 151. and 153. engineer battalion. The technique operated by the Security Battalion in Vyškov is used for training purposes.

After the abolition of military rescue battalions in September 2008, bridge cars (in 2018 there were two pieces) were operated at the Rescue Unit of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic in Hlučín.

Bridge cars the AM-50 and the German people's army

In the period of years 1975 to 1980 should be for the needs of the east German army bought 38 bridge car AM-50. In 1978 were the first four specimens tested by the Engineer regiment of the 2. During the tests showed the complexity of the hydraulic system and its low operability at low temperatures. This was the reason that the purchase of the AM-50 for the needs of the German people's army was suspended. Already taken four pieces were in 1982 handed over to the civilian sector.
