In several pieces, engineer tanks were created in the field workshops intended as carriers of the folding bridge set on chassis Pz.Kpfw.III. According to the report H.Gr.Mitte, three tanks Pz.Kpfw.III lg.[/I] (according to the photos identified as Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.M), dve Pz.Kpfw.III (7,5cm)[/i ] ( Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.N) a osm [i ] Pz.Kpfw.III kz.[/I] (some of the versions with a short cannon). The reconstruction was ordered by the commander of the XLVII Panzer Korps. 11 tanks were to be assigned s.Pz.Abt.505 (three reconstructions from Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.M) a dva tanky 2.Panzer-Division. The tanks were transported engineering material and a light emergency folding bridge to overcome obstacles. Reconstructions took place just before Operation Zitadelle (Kursk 1943).
However, after finding out that these reconstructions were made, Armee Oberkommando 9 issued a ban on the use of tank platforms Pz.Kpfw.III to these conversions in such a way that they could not be converted back to classic tanks. The possibility of equipping the platform with a tank tower had to be preserved.
