Chassis designed as a carrier of special superstructures for military purposes about the weight 24 300 kg when the total allowable vehicle weight of 38 000 kg. Right hand drive was affixed to the container partitions with a spacing of ISO 1C. T815-7M0R89 was proposed as a candidate for the rearmament of the south african army's new off-road trucks. The vehicle is transportable in an aeroplane and has the possibility of operation on a single fuel to NATO JP/F34. The cabin can be fitted with additional armour providing ballistic and protiminovou level protection STANAG 4569 Annex a Level 2, respectively. STANAG 4569 Annex B Level 2a and 2b.

In June 2004, the south african agency for armaments ARMSCOR issued a request for bids on a new type of military car, which would be in the ranks of the south african army replaced the domestic cars rows of SHAMIL, which were modified cars Magirus Deutz made in south africa companies, Truck-Makers, Drakensberg Truck Manufacturers, N1 Trucks and Transvaal Motors. T815-7M0R89 remained in the prototype stage. Later became the basis for the type T815-7MPR89that was also planned as a contender for the new truck for the south african army.
