Now for his 68sqn claims. The place of combat is quite vague as the info is taken from his log-book. However, due to their patrol radius, I am assuming most occurred over the channel.

This Heinkel was shot down into the North Sea in the night of 05/06.11.44 by Mosquito mk.XIX serial TA389 of F/Sgt Neal and F/Sgt Eastwood from 68 Squadron. It was the first kill made by a Mosquito of that Squadron.
One of the BF's may have operated as BM. All crewmembers are stil MIA.

addition to Czechoslovakian airmen
On 27. June 1944 was crew F/Lt Josef Čapka, DFM - F/LT G.T.Williams,DFM from 68 squadron in Beaufighter Mk.VIF KV974(WM-R) on day training flight. They encoutered US Liberator and Čapka made formation with him but rear gunner started fire and set Beaufighter on fire. Capka made a crash landing and was badly hurt (he lost left eye). Williams bailed out before crash.

Anyway, on June 27, 1944, F/Lt. Josef Čapka, DFM with radar operator F/Lt. Wiliams, DFM on a service or training flight (it was not a combat operation) with a twin-engine Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VIF with fuselage designation WM-R (KV974).


Around 15:30 over the English coast they met an American four-engine Liberator bomber, Josef Čapka wanted to take the opportunity to try a practice attack. Although the American pilot responded helpfully, the rear gunner of the bomber incomprehensibly opened devastating fire from 12.7mm machine guns from a distance of about 500 m. The Beaufighter was fatally hit and Josef Čapka wounded. The radar operator was rescued by parachute, but the wounded Josef Čapka had to attempt an emergency landing near Colchester. The aircraft caught on trees and broke up. The injury (and subsequent loss of an eye) spelled the end of Capka's flying career.

V8592 (WM-E, N) Heavily damaged 27.4.1944 During take-off from Fairwood Common, burst one tyre. After this the crew had to circle for about 80 minutes over airfield until the last of the day fighters landed which had returned from a sweep over France. The pilot then made a crash landing during which the plane was damaged. Pilot P/O Miroslav Standera and RO W/O Karel Bednarik came out without injuries.

Althought both planes were destroyed, pilot F/O Josef Vopalecky came out without injuries and RO F/Sgt Rudolf Husar was only lightly wounded on the head.

The pilot made a crash landing 1 km from Fairwood Common in a clearing with shrubs which damaged the plane. Pilot P/O Miroslav Standera and RO W/O Karel Bednarik came out without injuries.

by the way, it can also be found on page 2 Valka cz. section on the 68th Squadron of the RAF.

The only flight-eligible Blenheim in the world is at the British Aviation Museum in Duxford (UK), Fairchild Bolingbroke IV T 9893 Mk.IVT G-BPIV 'Q-VC' is painted black and features the Bristol Blenheim Mk.IVF 68 Sqn RAF (Z5722 .WM-Z) which was a personal machine W/Cdr Aitken. This machine was destroyed in an accident on June 6, 1942
This shows how important the Blenheim Mk.IVF machine was for the 68th Squadron. The squadron received the Bristol Blenheim Mk.IVF in February 1941. The last was delivered at the end of June 1942. It was the first machine used by the 68th Squadron for operational flying, unlike the Bristol Blenheim Mk.IF which it used only as a trainer. After rearmament to machines Bristol Beaufightery Mk.IVF in May 1941 Blenheimy Mk.VIF continued to use as a training.
