As of 22 June 1941, the regiment had 52 I-153 and I-16 fighters in its armament (5 of which were not airworthy).

After the initial fighting, it was transferred to the 11th Reserve Aviation Regiment for reformation on 03 July 1941. In late July, the regiment received Rostov na Don fighters LaGG-3 to fly until December 1942. After reforming, he returned to the front in August, where he protected transports across the Dnieper in the Kremenchug area.

On 28 August 1941, he transferred to the 16th August 1941 formation. Mixed Air Division, with which he performed tasks in protecting the Jedotinki Fifth Army, protected railway junctions in the vicinity of Chernigov and the city itself. He escorted bombers of the 15th Mixed Air Division, which operated in this sector, to action.

Since September 1941, he was in the line-up of the 63rd Mixed Air Division. As of 20 December 1941, he was transferred to the Air Force of the 40th Army.

From 16 May 1942 to 03 January 1943, he was subordinate to the 205th Fighter Air Division. From July to December 1942, the regiment began to rearm with Bell P-39 fighters. In January 1943, it was transferred to the 22nd Reserve Aviation Regiment for reorganization.

In January 1944, it was assigned to the 190th Fighter Aviation Division. As part of the division, he served with the 1st. Baltic Front. From February 1945 he flew over the 3. Byelorussian Front.

He fought against the Japanese in the Far East in August and September 1945 as part of the division.
