Fliegerkompanie 39

Flik 39 was founded at the turn of 1916 - 1917 (December - January). It was probably built at the airfield in Strasshof, Austria.
The first war deployment was with the 1st Austrian Army in Hungary on the Romanian front.

Later in summer 1917 it was reorganized into Flik 39D. "D" - Divisions Fliegerkompanie - military reconnaissance, support of ground troops at division level. They had 4 - 6 reconnaissance aircraft and several fighter planes. However, it was not reorganized until 25 July 1917 when the Fliegerkompanie specialization order was issued. It was then sent to the Tyrolean Front to the 11th Army. It probably served at an airfield near the Austrian town of Seebach near Villach. At the beginning of 1918 (January-May) they served in the 1st Fliegerhof. Army on the Sochi River, probably operating from the airfield at Lees.

Still later it was transformed into Flik 39 P. The "P" (Photoaufklärungs-Fliegerkompanie) was used exclusively for photographic reconnaissance. They used modified one or two-seater aircraft with photographic equipment on board.
They served again with the 11th Army, this time from Italy, probably from the airfield at Feltre. This was after the last RU - German offensive on Sochi in the autumn of 1917.
This is also where the collapse of the monarchy and the end of the war caught them.

They were members of Flik 39:

Hauptmann Karl Nikitsch

Feldwebel Augustin Novak

OberleutnantJohann Popelák
