vz. 99 ANTOS

Light hand mortar (LRM) vz. 99 is a very light weapon with a smooth barrel, designed to destroy the enemy's manpower and technology where it is not possible to hit it with direct fire (on averted slopes, in ravines, etc.). The trigger mechanism of the weapon allows either the function of a fixed fuse (autopercus), or firing using a trigger located in the mortar handle. The weapon does not have a braking device, a tripod, or an aiming, measuring or tilting mechanism. When shooting, the weapon is only resting on the ground and the shooter holds it in his hand. The mortar firing point can thus be set up and canceled very quickly and practically anywhere. Most parts are made of high-strength aluminum alloys, titanium alloys and plastics. The design contains only the necessary number of components that can be easily disassembled and maintained. The integrated liquid sight clearly displays the shooting distance. The modular design allows production in a number of variants in terms of features and equipment. The weapon is primarily intended for airborne and special forces.

The weapon was introduced into the armament of the armies of the Czech Republic (in 2000 at 6th Special Brigade, predecessor 601st Special Forces Group), Jordan (100 mortars since 2010) and Poland ( GROM, the acquisition took place in 2010, in service since 2011). In 2016 and 2017, more than 170 mortar sets were purchased for the needs of the Polish special and airborne forces. 99 ANTOS, which were introduced into the armament of special units AGAT, JWK (Jednostka Wojskowa Komandosów) and k 6. airborne brigade. Mortars and related ammunition (34,000 pieces) for Poland were manufactured by MSM GROUP companies in Dubnice nad Váhem and Nováky. In December 2019, another six mortars were ordered for the Polish GROM at a cost of PLN 100,000 each.

In armament 601. special forces groups ANTOS mortars were replaced by type M6H-895 from the Austrian company Hirtenberger.
