history
The unit was formed on February 11, 1917 at the base Hingham as a bomber. In March 1917 he moved to France, where he fought until the end of the First World War. of war. On December 14, 1942, it was rebuilt at the base Grimsby in Great Britain as a bomber and until the end of the war conducted mostly night raids on targets in Germany and occupied Europe. In the post-war period, he became involved in the fighting in Malaysia (Operation Firedog - 1950) or Kenya (1954). On September 1, 1959, the squadron was disbanded at the base Wittering.
On May 1, 1962, it was reactivated at the base Wittering as part of the so-called V-Force, ie bombing units capable of carrying nuclear bombs. September 30, 1968 is dissolved.
It was last restored on February 1, 1972 to the base West Raynham as a unit of Target Facilities and still plays this role today.
