Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5 - version overview:
S.E.5 - the initial series with a 150 hp Hispano Suiza engine, originally with a large wind shield, a fairly high perched pilot and gravity fuel tank over the upper wing and short curved exhausts.
S.E.5a - the main form, with 200-220 hp engines and changes introduced during production of the S.E.5a - small windshield, lowered pilot position with headrest, long exhausts and smaller wingspan.
S.E.5B - 1918 prototype with retractable radiator, aerodynamic engine cowling and wings of unequal span.
SE.5E - machines built (usually from spare parts) in the USA by Eberhart, with plywood covered fuselage and Wright-Hispano E engines.
