Polish footprint in the squadron's history

In late 1941, a group of 12 Polish volunteers were detached from the RAF Delivery Unit at Takoradi on the African Gold Coast (today's Ghana) and retrained in the 71st Airborne Division. OTU (Operational Training Unit) were assigned to the 112th Squadron of the RAF. They were part of it during 1942. They did not form a separate squadron, but were divided into two squadrons. The vast majority of the missions were attacks on ground targets. At the end of the year, the remaining airmen returned to their original unit, which at that time was already stationed in Egypt.
