Military version of the ammo 9mm NATO specifies the standard STANAG 4090 "SMALL ARMS AMMUNITION (9 mm PARABELLUM)", which for us was on 30. 6.2004 introduced as the COS 130502 "AMMUNITION of 9 mm CALIBER (BULLET 9 mm NATO)". From her I pick the most interesting paragraph, which are listed in full, verbatim:

Citace :

5.2 Accuracy
Shooting is carried out from a standard test barrel at a distance of 46 m. All interventions must be in a group whose mean radius not greater than 76 mm. The middle radius is meant the arithmetic average of the radii of all the interventions, measured from the middle point of the intervention to the center of the intervention.

5.3 the Effects of the projectiles in the target
Ammo must be able to cause lethal injury to persons, which are protected by steel helmets, and the means of individual ballistic protection at a distance of 23 m (the steel helmet is defined as helmet US M1 and a means of ballistic protection such as bulletproof vest US M1952). Fatal injury for these purposes, he thinks break through helmets and a means of ballistic protection.

5.4 the Mass and energy of the bullet
The mass of all bullets shall be in the range of 7,0 g to 8.3 g including. Muzzle energy when fired from a standard test barrel shall not be less than 542 J and must not be greater than the 814 J.

5.5 Pressure
The calculated mean maximum pressure in the cartridge chamber shall not exceed 255,1 Mpa (37000 pounds per square inch*) copper tlakoměrného roller and none of the pressures must not exceed 294,4 Mpa (42700 pounds per square inch). In the case of using a piezo-electric system on the pressure measurement, the calculated mean maximum pressure in the cartridge chamber must not exceed 230 Mpa and none of the individual pressures must not exceed 265 Mpa.
* transfer of units – 1 pound/palec2 = 6894,757 Pa

5.8 the Elevator power
The elevator the strength of the pressed shells of the casings shall not be less than 200 N.

5.9 Time of the shot
The duration of the shot (defined as the sum of the time lag matches, burning propellant filling and the time of the flyby shots of the main) for each of the shot charge must not exceed 3 milliseconds.

5.10 Sensitivity matches
If it is carried out the test as described in the MOPI AC/225 (Panel III-SP I)D/170(REV) with the use of balls of a weight of 55g ± 0.5 g, for all matches must occur to initiate in the fall of the balls from a height of 305 mm and any of the matches may not occur to the initiate during the fall of the balls from a height of 76 mm.

5.11 the Test of the functionality and effect
The hub shall be operational and satisfactorily carry out the mission in the reference arms of NATO according to the MOPI AC/225 (Panel III-SP I)D/170(REV).

5.12. The requirement for storage – temperature and climatic conditions
The hub must be secure and be able to satisfactorily perform the outcome parameters, if they are in the prescribed mode heated to a high temperature (+52°C) or cooled to a low temperature (-54°C) and after storage under the climatic conditions at the place of use (tropical, arctic and in the desert) after the prescribed time. Details of the tests and permitted ballistic changes in the requirements for the exam are listed in the MOPI AC/225 (Panel III-SP I)D/170(REV).

5.13 Residual stress – the bullets with a brass casing
Bullet with brass casing shall be free of undesirable residual stresses. Compliance must be subject to testing silver nitrate, mercury chloride according to the instructions in the MOPI AC/225 (Panel III-SP I)D/170(REV).

5.14 Waterproof
The hub must be waterproof. Test according to the instructions in the MOPI AC/225 (Panel III-SP I)D/170(REV).

5.15 a Pack of bullets
Ammunition must be packed in hermetically sealed containers sufficiently resistant to handling

5.16 Transportation
The military characteristics of the NATO on safety when transporting on vehicles in difficult terrain must be verified on the hub in its shipping container or box. The scope and methodology of the testing rounds in shipping container or box are a thing of the previous arrangements between the manufacturer of the rounds and the customer. For testing in the member countries of NATO are recommended to the methodology of "Evaluation Procedures for Future NATO Small Arms Weapon Systems" AC/225(LG/3-SG/1)D/14.

5.17 Marking
The bottom of each cartridge must be marked:
a) the manufacturer's Mark.
b) the Last two digits of the year of production.
c) Mark the structural pattern of NATO.

Marking bullets, shell casings and each of the munitions packaging must be done according to the COS 131502 (Identification marking military ammo).
A Symbol of interchangeability of NATO (COS 131502) will be placed on the outer packaging after they have been evaluated the characteristics of bullets and cartridges have been approved as a standard by NATO.

The annex of the standard is standardization of the drawing of the hub..
