RChM-6 (РХМ-6)
The RChM-6 is a Russian radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance vehicle designed on the basis of the BTR-80 armored personnel carrier. The vehicle was developed and its production is provided by the joint stock company Zavod Tula.
The vehicle is designed to carry out radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance and transfer the acquired data to the automated command systems (ASV) of troops. The detected RCHB situation, together with the received information from meteorological reconnaissance and data from other cooperating assets, is processed and displayed in real time at the asset commander's post and simultaneously at the posts of the superior ASV. In addition, the vehicle allows controlling the implementation of measures for protection against weapons of mass destruction, conducting remote reconnaissance of the presence of chemical agents up to a distance of 6 km from the position and immediately transmitting warnings about the presence of chemical agents (deployment or use of chemical weapons) in the monitored area.
At the beginning of 2016 (the information was made public in early February 2016), 4 RChM-6 reconnaissance vehicles were put into service in the Contingent of the Troops of the Russian Federation in Armenia (102nd Military Base). The contingent is stationed at bases in Gyumri and Yerevan.
