CM11 "Brave tiger"

Brief history
The army of the republic of China (Republic of China Army, further RoCA) relied on regular shipments of military material from the USA. After 25. October 1971 when it was the republic of China (Republic of China, furthermore, RoC) excluded from the UN and replaced by people's republic of China (the PRC), there have also been changes in the diplomatic and export relations between the RoC and the USA.

The island state and its army on these changes responded to the restructuring of the armaments industry and start purchasing licenses, yet the time felt the lack of armored vehicles. In 1979, established the Centre for the development of armaments (Ordnance Readiness and Development Center, further R&D), which was also responsible for the development of combat vehicles. In the eighties of the last century, with a discussion on the supply of spare parts and some of the weapons system. The US agreed to supply sets to the modernization of tanks M48A1 version A5. With this exception launched by the Centre for the development of armaments (Ordnance Readiness and Development Center, further R&D) cooperation with the Development Center in General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) on the development of the tank, codename M48H.

This cooperation has managed to Tajvancům to circumvent the ban on export of complete tanks M60A3, when they suggested to mount the chassis M60 towers of the M48A5. The chassis got a different motor than was in the original tanks, and the tower was placed an integrated fire control system identical to the american tank M1A1. Some sources suggest that whether or not it was intended to use the gun caliber of 120 mm. To do this, however, has not occurred, when it was discovered that during manual charging, are not the crew of the tanks capable of long-term operator. Prototypes of the tanks arose in 1988 and were equipped with a cannon caliber of 105 mm M68, which uses the ammunition of a lower weight. RoCA faces a constant lack of main gun M68, and since the local factory are not able to separate the final production, so these weapons are purchased abroad, for example, the last time it was a big van M68A1 of přezbrojovaných Abramsů. Command RoCA assumes that their tanks equipped with 105 mm cannon are fully sufficient to repulse the enemy units attacking from the sea. Landing ships with the infantry, the floating transporters and floating tanks of the Chinese people's army are considered soft, or lightly steel targets.

14. April 1990 introduced RoCA tank to your arsenal under the designation of CM11. By the end of 1994, it was made of 450 pieces.

vehicle Description
Chassis taken from the tank, M60A3 and adapted according to the logistics needs of the RoCA. Vehicle was manufactured without additional panceřování, this fact, the command of the tank forces, RoCA notified the and around the year 2003 introduced an additional reactive armor purchased at the company GIAT in France. The construction of the French ERA is compared to other types of routed upward to reduce the danger to accompanying infantry.

The vehicle is equipped with an effective filtro-ventilation system M13A1 for protection against nuclear fallout and the combat chemicals. Divorce filtered air is routed through pipes and hoses to protective masks M25 individual members of the crew. The findings of the fire inside the tank is used the detector with the response to 5 milliseconds, which is used to extinguish a mixture of Dragon 1301 (maybe the equivalent for us of the forbidden halon 1301), which fills the affected area up to 150 milliseconds. Extinguishing mixture supposedly does not cause damage to human health. When turning off the automatic detection, this system can be operated manually from inside and outside the vehicle.

Thanks to the use of the turret M48A5 and the chassis of the M60A3, the decrease of the overall height of the vehicle. The main gun has been modified for use by israel of the suspension and zákluzového system of the company Urdan Industries, which has allowed the use of the gun M68A1 in the smaller internal space of the tower. During use it was found that the lower design height of the tower makes it more difficult viewing options crew. Additional weapons placed on the ceiling of the tower can not be controlled from inside the vehicle. On the turret of a tank after the left and right side are placed šestihlavňové smoke grenade M239 caliber of 66mm.

The main gun and sighting system are stabilized in two planes and in tests of the prototype it was found that this arrangement is slightly better than the tanks M60A3 TTS. Tajvanci claims that during the tests of the prototype tank CM11 amounted to 82% of hits at a distance of 2000 m, whereas the M60A3 TTS allegedly only 75% of hits at a distance of 1500 m.

The driver has to observe the three periscopes, one of which can be equipped with night vision AN/VVS-2.
