The submarine was made for the Italian royal navy, which was handed over in exchange for the delivery of the submarine. The service was included 4.8.1943 as S-6 under the command of Italian captain.
After 8.9.1943 Italy concluded an armistice with the Allies, the submarine was taken over by the 10.9.1943 Kriegsmarine and 29.9.1943 included in services such as U-430. Served as a school and training ship.
