On the basis of the request of the Italian special forces was in the sixties 20. century made a small series of fully automatic version of the Beretta pistol M1951 with the designation of M951R ("R" as "Raffica", which is Italian for "gust of wind" in English is "R" simply interprets as "Rapid"). Gun M951R should be in service with some special units of the Italian army and, to a lesser extent, the gendarmerie and the national police. The gun is not taken off - too high a cadence did not allow shooting short controlled bursts, this resulted in poor maneuverability and a lack of accuracy.
