15. srpna se 8. letka JG 3 pod jeho vedením střetla s Thunderbolty 352. stíhací skupiny. 8. letka dosáhla jednoho sestřelu při vlastní ztrátě 6 strojů. Pilot, který sestřelil Bitsche není znám, ale jsou známy 4 piloti, kteří toho dne dosáhli sestřelu.
